Frequently Asked Questions
Why both ADHD and Autism?
32.8% of Autistic people are also ADHD! 9.8% of ADHD people are also Autistic! It is ethically correct to do assessments for both ADHD and Autism together, to give you a clear idea of how your brain works. (If you already have a diagnosis for one or the other, we can do just one assessment).

**ADHD and Autism Assessments with me are confidential**
Booking ADHD and Autism Assessments with me are confidential! I am also happy to write you separate diagnosis letters, one for ADHD and one for Autism, so you can choose what you share with other providers.
I adhere to all HIPPA guidelines.
If you do not use your insurance, then you and I will be the only people who know about your diagnosis. If you do choose to use your insurance, legally I do have to document it, so your insurance company will see the appointment and the diagnosis.
If you pay by credit card, your billing statement will say Empowering Therapy PLLC; nothing about ADHD or Autism. No one else will see your diagnosis, unless you want them to, or in the very rare case of a court subpoena.
Medication is your choice, and your choice only
If you want to discuss ADHD medication with a doctor, you can share your diagnosis letter so you have that option. If you do not want ADHD medication, then you don't have to get a prescription or take it! Getting an ADHD and/or Autism diagnosis is for your information, and you get to decide what you do with that information. (There is currently not medication specifically for Autism, though your doctor or psychiatrist may have suggestions.)

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), and as a therapist, I work with primarily ADHD, Autistic, and AuDHD clients. I am also ADHD! ADHD and Autism Assessments with me take 2-3 hours, and I generally have availability within a few weeks. I also assess for anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and substance abuse at the ADHD and Autism Assessments.
Some people choose to get diagnoses with psychologists. The average cost for a psychologist to assess for ADHD is $4,000, and includes 3-4 hours of testing and an additional 10-12 hours charged for compiling results and producing the letter. Comprehensive psychological evaluations include assessing for ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, and other diagnoses. The average wait time for an appointment is six months to a year and a half. Psychologists may be able to provide documentation to get disability assistance, though know that WA state requires a low IQ along with an Autism diagnosis in order to get financial disability assistance. Only psychologists can assess for IQ. I cannot provide documentation for disability assistance.
ADHD and Autism Diagnosis Letter
Within one week of our appointment, I will write you a letter with the results of the ADHD and Autism assessments we did together, and your official diagnoses. I typically try to get the letter done the same day, because that works better for my ADHD brain! But I also don't like to over promise, because of my ADHD brain! If you need your letter the same day as your appointment, please let me know and I will do my best to do that for you. Also, you get to choose if you want to send this letter to anyone!
Most medication providers, schools, and workplaces will accept this letter for your medication and accommodation needs. However, it is up to you to verify that they will accept an ADHD Assessment letter from a therapist with a Master's degree, and if they have any specifications they require in the letter.
Please note that this letter with your results is not the same as an accommodation letter. This can be provided in a separate session, charged at my hourly rate.
You can also use this letter to prove to friends and family what you have suspected, and to have that validation and satisfaction of knowing how your unique brain works! The feeling of having this confirmation is worth the assessment for many people. Also, during the assessment you will learn about how your brain works, and I will provide tips and tricks if you want them.
Remember, this ADHD and Autism diagnosis information is for you, and you decide what you do with it and who else has access to it! :)
Time, Cost, and Insurance
All assessments are done online, scheduled in PST. The entire process is 2-4 hours for the appointment, and 1 hour for me to write the letter. We will take a 2 minute break to stand up in the middle of the appointment. My hourly rate is $175, so the total cost is 1 hour of letter writing for $175, plus 2-4 hours of session time, $350 - 700, for a total of $525 - 875, for both ADHD and Autism Assessments, depending on how long it takes us. If it takes longer than 2 hours, we will schedule an additional appointment for one or two hours, depending how much more we want to do and have left to do. It costs $175 to hold your appointment, which goes to the cost of your letter and cannot be billed to insurance. The remaining costs are charged at the time of the appointment(s), via credit card or insurance.
Please note, Washington state now requires I collect sales tax on bookings, but one-on-one services are exempt. It will look like the website is collecting extra for this tax, but I have configured the price to equal $175, the actual price for the letter.
I can bill Ambetter Coordinated Care insurance (in WA, until January 12). You are responsible for determining whether you have a deductible to meet; if you do, I will charge your card for the cost at the time of the session. I am not in network with any other insurance companies.
I accept credit card, HSA, and FSA. If you have out of network benefits, I can provide a superbill you can provide to your insurance for reimbursement. This is up to you to determine with your insurance company; I cannot guarantee reimbursement. Please note if you use your insurance, your insurance company will see your diagnosis.
ADHD and Autism Assessment Process
1. Book an appointment below, and pay the $175 for the letter to secure your appointment. The cost of the letter also serves as a cancellation policy, and is non-refundable for no-shows. You will receive an automated email stating that you selected the booking. If you have any questions, or would like to see if there is any scheduling availability other than what you see online, you can email me at counselor@katmageau.com
2. I will confirm your booking and send you an email. This email will have the link to Google Meet for the appointment, and a link to your pre-assessment paperwork. I will also send you the Google Meet calendar invite, and the paperwork which will come from "Empowering Therapy PLLC." If you do not receive this within 2 business days of booking your appointment, please send me an email at counselor@katemageau.com
3. At least 24 hours to your appointment, you must fill out your paperwork. This gives me adequate time to review it before the assessment. If you do not fill out all your paperwork within 24 hours, I will assume you are not showing up to your appointment and I will cancel it. If you do not show up, you will have one opportunity to reschedule and attend your appointment.
Your pre-assessment paperwork includes standard therapy intake paperwork, and the following self-administered screeners. Please allow yourself one hour to complete your paperwork.

2. General Anxiety Disorder, GAD-7, for Generalized Anxiety
3. Patient Health Questionnaire, PHQ 9, for Major Depressive Disorder

6. Adult ADHD Self-Report Symptom Checklist, ASRS-v1.1
7. Audit C-Plus 3, for substance abuse
4. We will meet on Google Meet at our scheduled time for the ADHD and Autism assessment. Please have your camera and microphone on at the appointment. We will do 1 hour for Autism assessments, take a 2 minute break, and then do 1 hour for the ADHD assessment. If we do not complete the assessments within the 2 hours, I will charge my hourly rate in 15 minute increments, or we will schedule another 1 hour which will be billed for 1 hour.
5. Within one week of the assessment, I will send your complete mental health diagnosis letter, and the results of the ADHD and Autism assessments. If you want to an accommodation letter, or to discuss your results, you can schedule a follow-up appointment, billed at my hourly rate of $175, and not billable to insurance.
Thank you! I look forward to meeting you! Here's to happy, healthy, ADHDers with support! :)
